Before being called to the Bar Mr Ali was a level-3 OISC advocate specialising on complex asylum and immigration referrals from other practitioners for specialist advice and advocacy. He also taught law at the former North London University and a few other independent colleges.

Mr Ali had a short career working for the European Union as law officer and managed independent legal practices. He was also trained by the UNHCR and ICRC on laws of international and non-international armed conflict. He is experienced in diplomatic and legal drafting by virtue of former employments.

Advised client in claims against the Central Bank of Nigeria in proceedings at the Chancery Division.

Advised a UK registered subsidiary of a South-Asian bank on repatriating laundered funds from Turkish Cyprus.

Formerly a trainer for Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants (JCWI).

Advised EU Observer Mission EU-EOMB 2001 to Bangladesh as specialist on electoral laws, regulatory reforms and Security & Public Order enforcement issues.
