Daud Ilyas served as legal adviser to several international financial institutions before returning to self-employed practice at the Bar. He was Assistant General Counsel at the Asian Development Bank in Manila, Senior Legal Adviser and Deputy Secretary General at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London, and General Counsel of the Black Sea Trade and Development Bank in Greece.
His 30-year career at international financial institutions spanned a wide and varied field including settlement of disputes, international lending and investment transactions, prevention of corruption and money laundering, drafting of constituent documents of international entities, and mechanisms for resolution of employment matters. Due to his extensive experience he is well placed for dispute settlement proceedings including international commercial arbitration and for advising on various areas of international law.
He is an accredited mediator, both nationally and internationally, and is a member of the London Court of International Arbitration. He is a member of several specialist bar associations and is currently a member of ILA’s International Committee on the Recognition of States. He also has full rights of audience as an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and is fluent in several languages of the South Asian subcontinent.
